No matter how much you enjoy low concept films, high concept films will always have a large audience. why not After all, films with a strong conceptual element typically have a simple storyline and an understandable idea.

High concept films are distinctive and appealing to all audiences, and they have a hook to capture their attention. They are simple to explain, can be summed up in one sentence, but they might or might not be expensive or complicated.

The movies we’ve discussed in this piece, however, are quite conceptual and take a lot of work to understand. All of the films on the list are enticing and engaging, despite the fact that some of them may be purposefully confused.

01.Tenet (2020)

The movie is based on the concept of time inversion.

A secret agent embarks on a dangerous mission to prevent World War 3, but the journey turns to something beyond real-time. However, inverted technology, the most complex form of science fiction, is tackled smoothly.

The unexpected twists and turns in the movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time and the great ending makes everything worth it.

02. Groundhog Day (1993)

The movie introduces the concept of living the same day over and over again.

TV weatherman Phil Connors visits Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, to cover the annual Groundhog Day festivities, but realizes he is doomed to spend the rest of eternity in the same place, spend time with same people and repeat the same thing every day.

Groundhog Day is a funny, witty, clever film that exists on multiple levels to deliver a valuable life lesson.

03. The Butterfly Effect (2004)

The Butterfly Effect is the idea used in the chaos theory according to which a small incident can lead to much bigger changes far away.

Evan Treborn  (Ashton Kutcher) suffers from severe headaches and blackouts and is transferred into the past to undo unpleasant events in his life and others too.

The movie wonderfully covers an array of dark themes like prison rape, animal cruelty, child molestation, suicide, prostitution, drug addiction and mental illness.

Will Evan be successful in his attempt or end up making his life more chaotic?

04. Inception (2010)

Describing the beauty, brilliance and popularity of this mind-bending, action-packed movie are beyond any words can encompass.Although very intense and complex, you’ll not regret pushing the boundaries of your mind to understand Christopher Nolan’s concept of dream-sharing. Even if you watch umpteenth times, the ending will always be arguable. And, that’s why our highly conceptual movie list is incomplete without this movie

05. The Matrix (1999)

The ground-breaking, philosophical sci-fi classic introduced the concept of simulated reality.

Computer hacker Neo enters a forbidding underworld and discovers that the life he knows is the elaborate deception of an evil cyber-intelligence created by sentient machines to subdue the human population. He then plans to fight against the machines to free humanity from the lives of computerized brainwashing.

06. Predestination

Predestination is a realistic concept that fits the haziness and uncertainty of time-travel movies. It represents a timeless traveler who is looking for a fizzle bomber while circling across time from 1945 to 1993. The predestination dilemma is the idea on which the movie is built. Predestination paradox refers to a chain of events (actions, information, things, or people) in which one occurrence is one of the causes of another event, which in turn is one of the causes of the initial event.

07. Coherence (2013)

The plot of “Coherence,” a tale about eight friends who attend a dinner party and encounter a disconcerting series of reality-altering events, is largely based on the Schrödinger’s cat theory. Erwin Schrödinger, an Austrian scientist, created the thought experiment known as Schrödinger’s cat in 1935. It is sometimes referred to as a paradox. In layman’s words, it is the potential for several simultaneous realities to exist.

08.Source code (2011)

Colter Stevens, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a pilot who participates in a covert government program that allows him to relive the final moments of the life of another man who perished in a railway explosion. Stevens is required to find out who the bomber is, but when he begins, he realizes there are several factors at play, with time being the least important. The time-travel movies we’re used to seeing get a fresh spin in “Source Code,” and it does so masterfully. It is the most futuristic movie there is.

09.Mr Nobody (2009)

The subject of a science-fiction drama movie is choice and the nature of decision. Nemo Nobody, 118 years old and the last human on Earth, was at the train station when he suddenly found himself there. He must choose between staying with his mother or father following their divorce as the train is set to depart.

This choice opens up an infinite number of alternatives. Anything is feasible as long as he doesn’t make a decision. Of all, nobody wants to look back and wonder, “Would I have been better if I had chosen differently?”

It is simple to select between right and wrong, but it can be extremely difficult to decide between two correct paths.

10. Pi (1998)

Maximillian Cohen, a brilliant mathematician, is the main character of the film. Cohen contends that everything in nature can be comprehended and represented using numbers, and that if the numbers are properly graphed, patterns will appear.

With the use of his home-built supercomputer, Max eagerly attempts to devise a system that can forecast the stock market scenario. Wall Street investors looking to maximize their profits and a Chasidic Torah professor who thinks God has sent a mathematical code are both want Max’s findings.

Can Max find a single mathematical solution to religion, the stock market, history, and everything else going on in the universe after all the difficulties, excruciating migraines, and paranoid psychiatric delusions?

Which of these movies with complex concepts is your favorite?
